The water butt rota
Four plots share two butts. A chalk board on the shed door with initials and dates settled more arguments than any committee meeting.
Allotment notes
Half a plot on a windy hill, rented from the council for less than a takeaway a month. I write down what worked so next spring I do not start from zero.

The beer traps catch slugs. They also catch the beetles that eat slugs, which nobody mentions. This year I went back to torchlight rounds at ten in the evening and a bucket, and lost fewer lettuces than with any trap.
Copper tape did nothing I could measure. Grit around the brassicas helped a little and looked tidy, which counts for something on a shared site.
Planted in late October, ignored all winter, lifted in July. It is the only crop on the plot that has never once disappointed me.
